Ballycanew

Bullaun Stone

This circular bullaun stone which is said to be 0.6 metres in height is now mostly buried in soil and debris. The single huge bullaun is 0.45 metres in diameter. To give you an idea of it's size I have placed a two euro coin in the centre of the right hand edge. The present church is located in a subcircular graveyard which is believed to be the site of Ballycanew parish church. At the present time the area to the rear of the church is quite scruffy. Hopefully this is part of a cleaning up process.

Situated: In the northeast corner of St Mogue's C of I Church in the centre of Ballycanew. Sunday morning is the best time to visit as the gates are locked most days.
